Welcome to SUMMIT RAILWAY!
My name is Robert, I started with garden railroading around 2011 as a teenager and have been evolving since. This channel is all about building my G - scale garden railroad and exploring the world of large scale model trains. The possibilities of this hobby are endless and so are my ideas for the future! So please board my train and come along for the ride, it´s totally free of course!

LIGHTS and SIGNALS installed on the second platform, it looks amazing!
In this episode I am building the second platform of my G-scale railway station from the ground up. Work begins by fabricating the steel edge and installing it between the tracks. Then my focus shifts towards the platform lights and two signals which have to be mounted on top of the platform. This involves a lot of wiring and testing to make sure everything works before I am paving the platform with washed stone held in place by stone glue.

How to fill a coaling plant and freight wagon with coal
I got some hard coal to use on my garden railroad. This enables me to fill the coal bunker of my Pola G coaling plant and a freight wagon. I am also placing the second station building in the garden after I have installed some lights and a weight to hold it down in strong winds. Please enjoy and write your feedback in the comment section below!
Placing BUILDINGS on my LGB garden railway

I am placing three buildings in my station area. The locomotive shed, a water tower and the signal box. Each of the buildings has it´s own challenge regarding the installation. They need to be tied into the electrical and made wind proof so they will not blow away during the next strom. Enjoy the ride!

Today I am sharing the first test and impressions of the new to me track cleaning wagon. Starting out with a broad overview of the model itself, followed by the set up procedure. Then we are going through a test run on my layout and I am evaluating the track cleaning capabilities.
BEAUTIFUL railway station gets a new platform
Third time's a charm ... or in my case the third video! That´s because it took me three videos until I have finished at least two of my platforms. This video combines the accomplishment of 4 days worth of work. Prepping the steel platform edge, getting the lanterns ready to be installed and "paving" the platform. I am also getting back to my power supply which is finally wired by my electrician.
Fabricating a rounded steel edge
Todays weather conditions don´t allow for any real outside projects. That´s why I deviate to a different part of the layout where I can build one more platform edge that is small enough to fabricate inside. I am using 40 x 40mm angle iron which I am cutting, bending and welding to the desired shape. Finally I will test fit it on the layout to make sure it fits properly.

Building a platform edge for my G scale garden railroad out of steel. Measure twice, cut once and then weld it together, that´s what I do the whole day to fabricate this custom made piece. I am using 40 x 40mm angle iron and some scrap pieces of rebar.

Wiring a railway station
Lot´s of wires run across my station area, the only problem is they are above grade and not connected to anything... But I will change this right now! Digging trenches across the station, soldering connections, installing isolating connectors and getting supervised by the track inspectors. All of that and much more can be seen in this video, please enjoy!

Hello Robert. Are you concerned with the cast iron angle iron platform border rusting over time?
Very cool
Have you tried a lash up the directions confuse me
Thanks for your help I watched till the end !
amazing job, would love to see a quick clip at night with all those lamps working 😇 maybe even a little bit of smoke to show off all the beams...... one new subscriber
Just amazing work and detail. I hope one day my layout can look half as good as yours. Thanks for all the great videos.
Thank you very much!
Amazing. That's all I got. It's looking so real.
I am glad you like it!
Great job. I hope the smell of the resin kept Charlie and all the other inspectors away. It would be terrible to find one of them stuck on the platform like was waiting for a train. Like last year when I laid some cement and covered it to keep my little dogs off. The following morning there were two sets of paw prints in the cement, but no evidence on their paws of any cement.😄
For the first couple of hours I made sure that they would stay away, but honestly I had more concernes about leafes and such falling on the wet resin and get stuck forever... luckly nothing of the above happened :)
MOOOOMMMM SUMMIT DROPPED ANOTHER BANGERR!!!
Thank you, I am glad you enjoy my videos!
Awesome, love watching your work and the way it’s all coming together. Tim, Australia.
Hi mate, I appreciate your comment! Slowly but surely it comes together and looks like a railway station should look like, at least in my neck of the woods :) Greetings form Germany
Great video, it would be lovely to see some night shots.
As soon as I get the rest of my lanterns installed ther will be a "night reveal" so to speak. I also need to figure out my power supply for the lanterns since the circuit board I intended to use was overheating very quickly during a short test.
Looks great. Are you building a overhead walkway between the platforms and the main station for the 'passengers' to use?
Thank you! As you might be able to tell I have a lowered platform edge on a small portion of my platform. This will be the place for a passenger walkway across the tracks which I have to build yet. For now there will be no overhead walkway...
It is coming together very nicely. Well done. I like the music during the accelerated section by the way. Ingenious way to mount the signals and still be able to remove/replace/maintain them. I don't know if you are an engineer but I can tell you are ingenious ;-)
Thank´s for all you comments, I appreciate every single one of them! Being able to remove the signals is mendetory for the upkeep of the layout in the long term. I am sure they will hold up for a long time but some day I will need to replace a LED or the whole Signal and at that point I will be able to. I am not an engineer but I try to find solutions for my problems anyways...
Looking great. Enjoying your process.
Thank you!
Beautifull. Greatings Frank
Thank you, I am glad you like the looks of it!
Love the progress so far. Are you going to have a foot bridge over the tracks to get to the other station platform? That would look real good if so. Not sure if you already have that planned or not just a idea. Keep up the great work such a great layout so far.
It is currently not planned to install a foot bridge. I will install a foot path across the tracks, therefore I have two short sections where I have lowered my platform edge to accomodate the foot path. A foot bridge might be a good option further down the road, I will keep your idea in mind!
Wo steht denn die Gartenbahn?
Im schönen Frankenland :)
What a brilliant video and a great looking stachon.
Thank you!
It was a very nice station area. Have a nice day. Cheers
Glad you like it!
I'm looking forward to seeing some trains running through the station, complete with night time shots to see the lighting. This year? or do we have to wait until next year?
Your wish will most probably come true at the 22.nd of December. I have planned a get together with some friends to run the trains. At that time of the year it will be dark pretty soon so there will be night time shots as well.
Thanks for all yr effort. I am doing about the same project, just a bit smaller and 6 months behind you
Glad to hear that I am not alone :) Since I am taking my time for each step you might be able to catch up in the near future.
Hahaha, 😂😂😂😂 I love those truck inspectors...❤❤
Yeah, they are the secret star of the show :)
Looking good, thank you for the updates.
You are welcome!
Félicitations Éric from France
Thank you very much Eric, I am glad you like my last update!

It looks better every time, nice work done. Soon we need some trains running :)
I totally understand that you want to see some trains running ... me to. I am working on a very dense time schedule regarding this project. I only got time for it on saturdays and sundays. During this time span I need to purchase supplies, build my garden railroad, video everything and last but not least make a nice video out of it so that you can see what is going on. The next planned train operation will be mid december this year. Bevore that date I will mostly focus on build progress. If all goes well one of the next videos will be at my friends layout, there will be some train operation for sure.
Just wonderful ❤
Thank´s a lot, I appreciate it!
@@summitrailway Logo! Ich feier jedes einzelne. Und die Hühner sind der Oberhammer! In welchem Bundesland bist du eg?
Hello, amazing work! One question, why haven't you painted the iron posts around the platforms? Now they are going to rust (you see that already). Or is that your intention?
I want the steel to rust since I like the looks of it. Once the whole edge is evenly covered in rust it will blend in with the rest pretty nicely. From a structural stadpoint I will have more than 10 years of livetime bevore the rust may get an issue.
Your videos and showing the progress are a delight to watch I have enjoyed every single one. Glad that Charlie the Inspector approved and signed of all that work, The Railway Is really looking magnificent.

What decoder do you have in your crocodile and did you install it yourself
It is an ESU XL Sounddecoder, I have installed it myself and it was programmed by a friend of mine.
I would really like to see some fully lit night shots. It looks like it would be awesome based on your installations!
As soon as I get all the lights installed I will do exactely that! I can´t wait to see it myself but I want the full installation done first :)
What 18v leds are you using? I’ve been looking for a way to light my buildings and those look great
I bought those of eBay. They work from about 12V up to 24V no problem and you can even switch plus and minus around however that works with led´s. I like them very much, they make a nice light and are fool proof. That´s what I need :)
What is the name of the plastic boxes you used to connect the wires together?
They are called WAGO clamps. WAGO is the manufacturer but they are available from different manufacturers as well.
Nicely done,,thanks for sharing,,😊
It is my pleasure, thank you!
Very nice mate ✨✨
Thank you!

Cooles Video!
Great work. Good wind protection to the buildings. Where did you purchase the buildings. Are they already assembled. 🙌👍🚂
The wind protection is very much needed. My friend has lost almost all of his buildings during a storm in the past year. I don´t want to have the same problem so I am taking precautions. The buildings are bought all over the place. Most of the are from eBay, some I bought new and two of them are tailor made for me. Most buildings are kits which I have to assemble first. Since it is boring to watch a guy assembling plastic parts for several hours I do not show it in my videos.
Super umgesetzt.... Sehr interessant
Klasse, schön das es dir gefällt!
Terrific as per usual. Thanks for your effort! Looking forward to your next episode. (BTW, “reckon”??!! Most Germans learn British English and that word is not in their lexicon. Love it! What gives?!!
I am glad you like it! In school I only learnd very basic english, I haven´t had to much interest in a second language. Had you told me I would run a english youtube channel in 8 years I wouldn´t have belived you. I learnd most of my english from movies, series and interviews. My job in the aviation industry helps with it too. I think reckon is used mostly in Australia and New Zealand am I right? Anyways, now it is used in Germany as well 😂
Maybe you could try to replace the stone with 2 springs, one on each side attached to 2 hooks on the floor.
Another idea that might work. Since I haven´t planned for the hooks in the ground this solution is done with at this building. But I can try it elsewhere.
Great job. I always use a small spoon 👍
I haven´t thought ahead so I had to use what was available at this point. A spoon would have helped for sure...
Lovely, eye for detail. Good to think about wind gusts. Great work.
Thank you! Wind is one of the biggest problems for scale buildings in the garden. I have several different ways of ballasting them or fixing them to the ground but this idea was new to me as well. I thought it is worth a try.
